Body Awareness Yoga For Children

Programme  Options
"We want all children to have safe and secure childhoods in which they
can develop their full potential."
Former Young People and Families Minister, Margaret Hodge

Body  Awareness  Body  Awareness  offers  a  curriculum  that  reflects  the  government's  own  priorities  and  concerns.  We  contribute  to  three  of  the  five  desired  outcomes  of  the  'Every  child matters' green paper:

•  Health
•  Enjoyment
•  Making  a  positive  contribution

Health  and  emotional  well  being

Outcomes  over  the  last  twelve  years  have  shown  that  everyone  learns  and  performs  better  when  they  are  relaxed.  Our  sessions  bring  children  to  a  relaxed  and  receptive  state  using  breath  awareness  and  movement.
"Both  schools  that  have  worked  with  Body  Awareness  have reported  very  positive  feedback  including  improved  behaviour  in  class,  more  relaxed  children  and  more  relaxed  families"   PLLSHSP(Lewisham,  Lambeth,  Southwark  Healthy  Schools  Partnership)following  2006  research  project.

Research  has  shown  that  our  work  has  helped  children  clarify  and  understand  their  feelings  and  needs  and  be  able  to  communicate  them.          "They  have  learnt  how  to  read  their  bodies  and  are  more  aware  of  their  ability  to  self  soothe." Ellie  Spurell,  Charles  Dickens  School

Behaviour  Improvement

In  each  session  teaching  techniques  include  VARK  (Visual,  auditory,  read/write  and  kinasethic)  as  well  as  ancient  Indian  and  Chinese  yoga  techniques.  As  concentration  increases  incidents  of  poor  behaviour  decreases.

Physical  education

"At  least  twice  a  week  some  physical  activity  should  help  enhance  and  maintain  muscular  strength  and  flexibility  and  bone  health". Health  education  authority

Our  sessions  comprise  mainly  weight  bearing  exercises  and  joint  mobilising  movements  along  with  breath  awareness.  Techniques  promote  good  right/left  brain  functioning  and  improvements  in  co-ordination  are  soon  noted.  "A  child  with  ELA  and  who  finds  it  difficult  to  both  follow  instructions  and  co-ordinate  her  movements  has  made  immense  progress,  both  in  her  listening  skills  and  in  her  co-ordination." Helen  Groothues,  Charles  Dickens  School
